The Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition Directive (ECGTD or EmpCo - EU 2024/825) was enforced on the 27th of March 2026, with rules to be applied by September 27, 2026.

EmpCo’s impact is global. Regardless of size or location, EmpCo rules and penalties will apply to any business (in the EU and abroad) with sustainability-related claims that reach the EU consumers. It makes sustainability communications a matter of legal and operational responsibility for companies by imposing clearer rules and stricter substantiation and verification requirements, with serious penalties for non-compliance.

NOW understand that hotels are at different levels in their sustainability certification programme, and have varying capacities, resources and budgets. The NOW Sustainability Reporting Tool can be activated in stages – there are two mandatory pages for basic information and four optional pages for when substantiated data and images are available.
